During the summer of 2019 I worked as a Commissioning Automation Technician where I supervised the electrical installation of a system at Colorado State University’s Organ Recital Hall and SOHO Towers Lighting Truss in Manhattan. In addition I made service calls at Harvard Business School’s Klarman Hall and at Choate Rosemary Hall. During this time I took a greater lead in Automation Controls department and enjoyed taking on the responsibility of supervising crews while traveling across the country.

During the summer of 2018 I worked as an Assistant Controls Technician at Texas Scenic Company | NE (TSC). TSC is a theatrical equipment contractor that specializes in theater rigging and controls systems. Over the course of the summer I worked with the Lead Controls Technician (Johan Hoyes) to build control panels and pendants, quality control inspections of control panels and motors, as well as prepping motors for assembly. I also worked with the Controls Designer (Michael Patterson) to commission the controls system at Klarman Hall at the Harvard Business School, assisted in the drafting of control systems, and inspecting an active construction site at Manhattan School of Music.

Klarman Hall - Harvard Business School (2018 & 2019)

The TSC installation in Klarman Hall consisted of 7 sets of motorized battens, 2 PA systems on hoists, and 25 three axis acoustic panels which change the tune of the room depending on the amount of people in the audience. While at Harvard my responsibilities were to assist the Lead Controls Engineer in testing control panels and calibrating the systems for preset positions.

Manhattan School of Music (2018)

My work at the Manhattan School of Music was mainly inspecting the installation of six variable acoustic banners. I made sure that site electricians installed the building power and data lines into the machine correctly and assisted in showing the proper wiring to site electricians.

Drafting

I worked with the Lead Controls Designer, Michael Patterson, to draw the control panel wiring diagrams. Under Michael’s supervision I learned how to draft in AutoCAD Electrical and completed two control panels.

Control Panel Inspection and Prep

In addition to drawing the layout of control panels I spent a significant time preparing control panels to be wired up by an outside UL listed vendor, in this process I fitted DIN rail and wire duct into the panel and mounted all components. After receiving the panel back from the UL listed vendor, I would conduct quality control testing to ensure that the panel was wired correctly before testing with with a motor in the shop.

While in the field I would inspect the installed control panels and test that the machine still works as it did when it left the control shop.

Acoustic Panel Mock-Up

During the summer of 2019, I rigged a mock-up of an acoustic panel that will be installed in a Performing Arts Venue at Brown University. The mock-up includes (1) 1/2 Ton and (2) 1/4 Ton chain motors and a large acoustic panel that moves in three axes.
