Yale School of Drama
In my final year at the School of Drama I began by technical directing a newly written play, The Salvagers, for Yale Repertory Theatre. This show has been the most challenging project I have gotten to work on, with 7 axis of automation, 3 ATDs, 6 carpenters, and the largest budget I have had to manage.
In addition to being technical director for a Yale Rep show in my final year I wrote my thesis.
In my third year at I kicked off the semester by technical directing the second show in the School of Drama season, Next to Normal. While the TD for Next to Normal, I managed the budget, technical design, build process, and load in. I had two assistants working with me who completed technical designs for three climbable lamp posts and walls that floated above the stage. This project pushed my management skills by making me delegate projects and coordinating with the design team and director to get the best result with the money we had available.
In the Spring of 2023, I completed a 17’ tall hydraulic lift that took an actor high over the stage for the Yale Repertory Production of Mojada: A Medea in Los Angeles. This was my first automation tech design and it was the most fulfilling project I have gotten to work on. I enjoyed that I got to follow a project from start to finish through a 6 week design and build process plus getting to commission an automation system for a show.
While at YSD, I have gotten to technical design for Yale Rep on three productions outside of my production assignments. I have enjoyed the opportunity getting to volunteer on additional shows getting to stretch my technical design skills. One of my favorite projects was designing a flying wall for the first show back after COVID, the wall had three spinning doors and lifted up above the stage to create a clear view to the upstage portion of the stage. I love the work I have gotten to do for Yale Rep and look forward to continue problem solving in the future.
